Ner Community Projet - 'Peace of Mind' - What is it? How do I get involved?

8:30 PM - 10:30 PMNer Yisrael

Hear about the 'Peace of Mind' programme directly from Professor Danny Brom, Director of the Herzog Hospital Trauma Unit and Anthony Goldstein, UK Coordinator for 'Peace Of Mind'.

What is the 'Peace of Mind' programme? The life of each individual IDF soldier is very precious to us, and not just during the time they are soldiers.  We have a longer term duty to care for them too as they will continue to defend Israel for us. On numerous occasions, individuals amongst the Ner Yisrael community have responded eagerly to calls to help, most notably in recent times during Operation Protective Edge when equipment and supplies were funded for soldiers. Now we have the chance to come together as a community to support a project that has at its heart the future well-being of Israeli soldiers.

Every year thousands of young Israeli combat soldiers are discharged from their military duties back to civilian life. Whilst many of them take a few months to adjust to civilian life, there are some who are not able to handle the impact of the psychological traumas that they faced during battle. This can lead to substance abuse, bouts of anger, difficulties in relationships, depression and even suicide.

'Peace of Mind' is a unique programme that aims to support an entire unit of soldiers who have served together, without singling out individuals, and treats them through workshops and therapy.  A central component of the program includes a seven-day overseas trip with intensive six-hour daily workshops allowing them time to process the traumatic events away from distraction and the painful places where they happened.

'Peace Of Mind' and Ner Yisrael: 'Peace of Mind' has been chosen by Ner Yisrael's Executive Board as a worthy community project to support. Our ambition is to host a treatment programme for one group of soldiers in the summer 2016.

We have a generous sponsor who is matching every donation which has enabled us to fund most of the project through private donations. We would now like to create a committee to organise the week's visit, the communal Shabbat meal, the host families and the final part of the fundraising.

How do I get involved? Please join our committee and give your support to this worthwhile cause
